Interestingly enough, running a blog can be one of the simplest and easiest ways to make money online. However, the initial planning, preparing, research, and writing are what drive most people away. Once up and running, these tools are fantastic online businesses, and require minimal effort to keep going.
Online business ideas are abundant. They range from selling e-books on any subject in the world to affiliate marketing for products the business owner could care less about. So why not try to combine the two into a well-run blog in a tight niche market?
The first key to starting a popular blog that will make money is to find the right niche.
Now every niche has most likely been explored already, the key is to exploit it better than anyone else. While topics such as making money online or personal finance seem like logical choices, they are the most over-populated niches on the internet, stay away from them.
After a niche has been determined, the next step is to determine how profitable it will be. Although items such as basket weaving might be interesting and a tight niche, they really have no marketability and should be crossed off the list. Double check each idea against Google Statistics to see which ones are searched for the most.
Now that a good niche has been selected, the key is to keep your readers coming back with new content. A good blog will update at least twice per day in its first year or two in existence. Any less and the blog will lose readers. Keep them in the loop by offering RSS feeds and email newsletters.
Developing a Facebook following and a Twitter following can be helpful, but do not rely on them too much.
Finally, become an internet marketer. Running a blog is all about marketing the niche. If people are interested, and see the blog as an expert in the area, they will pay money for advice, whether that is in the form of an e-book, or revenue coming from affiliate ads. The biggest keys are to keep at it, keep updating, and keep the reader engaged.
